Abstract
A number of evidence-based treatment (EBT) models have proven effective for treating child Posttraumatic Stress Disorder; however, the dissemination of these empirically supported treatments remains constrained due to limited training in public sector settings. Despite the high risk for PTSD and co-morbid psychopathology in trauma exposed children and adolescence residing in Singapore residential facilities, there are few services providing trauma-informed care. Therefore, this presentation will review the most notable empirically supported child trauma treatments and a proposed model for training healthcare workers and implementation of EBT in public sector settings, particularly residential facilities. The model proposed includes third wave Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) treatments, namely, Trauma Informed Care (TIC), Trauma Systems Therapy (TST), Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP), and Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation (STAIR) for adolescents. Consideration for implementation of western treatments internationally will be emphasized within an Asian context. Because this model has recently been implemented and is in the pilot phase, a general overview of the model, training, and treatment implementation will be highlighted to point out successes and challenges within a Singapore child residential facility.
